Käännöspalvelu Berry is run by me, Lynn Rannikko (née Berry). I grew up in a bilingual Finnish and English family, so I was exposed to two cultures and languages from an early age. I was also encouraged to study other languages, and the interest in languages that was kindled in my childhood took me to the University of Turku to study English Translation Studies.
I began working as an independent translator while I was still at university after I had completed a traineeship at an international translation agency in Turku. Later, I worked for the same agency for four months contributing to a large software localisation project. Before graduation, I also completed a one-month traineeship translating EU texts at the Finnish unit of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation in Brussels.
Completing two traineeships, working for a large translation agency and being responsible for my own translation business have developed my competence and made me a confident writer and proofreader. I have a lot of experience in translating news releases, user manuals, news and blog texts published on websites, public administration texts, and texts for annual reports.
The topics of the texts I translate vary immensely from occupational safety to gardening and from forestry to digital cameras. This is both a challenge and one of the best parts of being a translator: everything you learn in life may prove useful one day, and each project teaches you something new.
In my free time, I have a special interest in cooking and baking, old houses, design from the 1950s, environmental matters, wellbeing and sport.
I am a member of the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters (SKTL), Kieliasiantuntijat ry, and Nordic Editors and Translators (NEaT) ry.
